Goodbye Google Station - A free high speed wifi internet service by Google at 400+ Indian railway stations.

Let's go back to 2014 🛩️. Airtel used to charge more than 95 rupees per a GB of Data that we use over the mobile (4G speed was still a dream in India back then 😂). BSNL internet connection would cost around 500 rupees per month ( And most of the time, the connectivity used to be terrible). Internet usage among individuals in India used to be very less. Google, which was started 20 years ago with an objective to make the internet available and usable to all the people around the world, came up with an excellent idea of providing free high speed internet to people at 400 busiest railway stations in India. The project was named  "Google Station". Slowly, Google along with its partner companies was able to scale this up to more than 400 railway stations in India in a span of 3 years ie., between September 2015 to July 2018. As it was accepted by the majority of the people, it had become one of the many successful projects by Google. It's been 5 years since the project started running. Now, Google decided to stop this service in a step by step process, as the connectivity of the mobile internet has improved and the cost is also reduced. Today, an average Indian uses around 10GB of data per month as the data tariff in India is 95% less compared to other parts of the globe. Incredible! Isn't it ?. Thanks to Reliance jio for bringing this revolutionary change in the telecommunications market.

Wondered to see that Reliance is capable of not only affecting small businesses but also a company like Google.

Anyway, it's bitter to accept that Google is winding it's Google station project slowly as it could not generate enough income by showing ads to the people who ever connect to the internet at free of cost. Rest in peace "Google Station" - You will be remembered.
